Hamer launches second bid for parliament with backing from Toorak's wealthy
Amelia Hamer is running for the Victorian parliament seat of Malvern in November. She has strong support from wealthy Toorak residents.
The 33-year-old Oxford graduate is launching her campaign on Sunday. Nearly 200 corflutes have already appeared across Toorak, Armadale and Malvern.
Wealthy residents publicly backing her include billionaire Lindsay Fox and investment banker Tony Burgess. Hamer quit her job as a research analyst at Ord Minnett two weeks ago.
She did this to focus on the race. She narrowly lost a federal race for Kooyong last year.
Her opponent was teal incumbent Monique Ryan. Ryan had ousted former Liberal treasurer Josh Frydenberg in 2022.
The campaign shows early momentum as Victoria heads to the polls in November.
