Severe storms to batter South East Queensland and northern NSW with giant hail
BOM warns of giant hail, winds over 125km/h, heavy rain and a possible tornado hitting SE Queensland and northern NSW on Tuesday.
A severe thunderstorm warning covers South East Queensland and northern NSW on Tuesday. The worst impact is expected inland from Biloela south through Toowoomba, Brisbane and the Gold Coast.
The storms will bring hail larger than 5 centimetres and destructive winds exceeding 125km/h. Heavy rainfall is also expected.
A tornado is possible, particularly inland. Flash flooding is a serious risk after heavy rain in recent weeks has already saturated the region.
The storms arrive as warm, humid air from the Coral Sea collides with a low-pressure trough.
