Macarthur beats Perth Glory on disputed late penalty
Macarthur FC comes from behind to beat Perth Glory 2-1 on a controversial penalty in the final ten minutes.
Perth took the lead through captain Tom Lawrence in the 59th minute but could not hold on at Campbelltown. A penalty call against defender Calem Nieuwenhof in the final ten minutes sparked Macarthur's comeback.
After the first penalty was saved, encroachment gave Macarthur a second attempt, which Ryan Fraser converted. Jonathan Aspropotamitis headed in a free-kick in the 89th minute to seal the win.
Lawrence said the penalty decision was wrong and made a mockery of the league. The loss means Perth will extend its wait for an opening-round win beyond 13 years, with the last coming in 2014.
