Blacktown street faces demolition to make way for 134-apartment towers
Homes NSW will demolish 16 public housing homes on Indigo Way to build 134 apartments up to six storeys high.
Louise Marchant and her son Gary have lived on the quiet Blacktown cul-de-sac for more than 30 years. They've built a community there, raising family, and creating annual Christmas light displays with neighbours.
Now Homes NSW is relocating all residents to make way for a major redevelopment. The agency says demolishing and rebuilding is the fastest way to increase public housing density.
But the Greens argue the government should build on unused state-owned land instead, warning that supply will drop during the decade-long construction phase. Residents worry about losing their community and, in Louise's case, access to her home for her granddaughter's cerebral palsy therapy.
