ACT redirects $16m ice rink budget to other sports projects

The ACT government is moving $16.265 million from a scrapped ice rink to other sporting facilities in Tuggeranong.

Sports Minister Chris Steel stopped the ice rink in early September due to cost blowouts and unacceptable risks. The Opposition asked for transparency on which election promises would be funded from the money now available.

The government must now detail each sporting project, its location, scope, and timeline. The original October deadline was extended to February 2027.

This gives the broader Tuggeranong community more time to have a say. Residents can track whether promises are kept before the next election.
