From Warrnambool to the Netherlands: Australian hockey player's masters debut
Chris Thompson competed in Europe for Australia's masters hockey squad in his first international tournament.
Chris Thompson was born in Liverpool, England in May 1953 and moved to Australia at age 11. Chris Thompson has played hockey throughout his life and this year made his first appearance in an international competition.
Southern Cross, which runs Australia's second-tier masters teams, selected him for the 70s squad. Thompson travelled to Breda in the Netherlands in August to compete in the European championships.
He said the experience was wonderful and that the team bonded exceptionally well. For the first time, he felt confident enough in his teammates to focus solely on his own game without checking behind him.
The organisation and support were excellent throughout the tournament.
