M1 on-ramp speed limit lifted to ease Figtree merging chaos

M1 southbound on-ramp speed limit rises to 100 kmh with new lane markings at Figtree.

A notorious traffic pinch on the M1 Motorway at Figtree in NSW is getting an upgrade this week. The southbound on-ramp from the Princes Highway has long frustrated drivers who must slow well below the 100 kmh speed limit as vehicles begin to merge.

Transport for NSW is raising the ramp speed limit to 100 kmh and repositioning line markings so drivers can start merging sooner. The changes should help traffic flow more smoothly during busy periods.

Work is happening overnight to avoid daytime congestion. Wollongong MP Paul Scully said the "relatively simple" adjustments will make the merge safer and easier for motorists.
