Canberra light rail work finishes early, weekend closures cancelled

Stage 2A light rail construction finished ahead of schedule, removing the need for weekend closures.

Canberra drivers expected road closures on Northbourne Avenue from Friday evening through Monday morning have been cancelled. Construction crews finished their work early.

The closures were supposed to let crews do asphalting, set up and remove traffic barriers, and clean up the site. All that work finished during last weekend's closure instead.

A second planned partial closure for early November is also no longer needed. Rail replacement buses will still run at normal or better frequency during the weekend of 31 October and 1 November.
