Broadmeadow childcare centre will never reopen after roof damage
Guardian decided against the roof repairs, citing significant costs, after the July closure.
The Rumpus Room on Darling Street in Broadmeadow has closed for good. Guardian Childcare and Education told parents on Thursday October 8 that the centre would never reopen.
The centre had been temporarily closed since July while repair work was investigated. Guardian's Paul Ryan wrote to parents that the necessary roofing works would not be done.
The company said the cost of making the building suitable again was significant. Guardian says the centre was not deemed unsafe at any stage.
One parent said the closure left them powerless, with little to no childcare spots in Newcastle. Parents are calling for more openness about the type of mould found and any risk to children's health.
The Newcastle Herald understands Guardian will give up the service approval from October 23.
