Jim Henson exhibition opens at Brisbane's Goma

A big exhibition of more than 500 objects celebrates Jim Henson's work. It marks 70 years of Muppets at Brisbane's Gallery of Modern Art.

The Make, Believe, Magic exhibition at Goma features puppets, props, costumes, sketches and archival materials from the Jim Henson Company. Big Bird and the 13-foot-tall Mr Snuffleupagus are among iconic characters on display.

Some have never been publicly shown before. The exhibition recreates the Fraggle Rock set from the 2022 reboot across an entire room.

It includes details from both the original 1980s series and the modern version. Visitors can try puppeteering themselves.

They can explore how Henson's work evolved from the 1960s onward. The show spans Goma's entire ground floor as an immersive space.

Every corner holds layered details. It honours Henson's career, which ended with his unexpected death in 1990.

It also celebrates the creators who continue his legacy in animation and practical effects.
