Infrastructure House listed for sale as Canberra consolidates offices
The Department of Infrastructure has sold its former Canberra headquarters as it consolidates four offices into two.
Infrastructure House, at 111 Alinga Street, is now for sale with vacant possession. The department left the building earlier this year as part of consolidation.
Employees are already moving into 7 London Circuit, while a second group will eventually occupy One City Hill mid-next year. The building dates from the late 1980s and was refurbished over the years.
Last year, three small areas needed cordoning off due to minor issues including a leak and suspended concrete. The 16,413-square-metre building has three street frontages, a large atrium and basement car park.
The Crown lease allows for residential use, student accommodation or a hotel. The sale comes as Canberra's CBD faces a shift: vacancy rates in Civic jumped to 26.4 per cent over six months to August, the third-highest on record.
Several other large government office buildings are now for sale.
