Hanoiholic brings Hanoi-style pho to Canberra's dining scene
Canberra restaurant Hanoiholic opened in February serving Hanoi-style pho, a lighter northern Vietnamese style.
Owners Trinh and Tuan operate a small kiosk on Allara St opposite the Meriton Suites, educating the lunch trade on the difference between north and south. The Hanoi version swaps the traditional herb plate and hoisin sauce for house-made garlic vinegar, topped with shredded spring onion.
The menu extends beyond pho to bánh mì sandwiches, rice noodle bowls and rice bowls. Trinh said customers who work nearby come for lunch three times a week.
The business has grown primarily through word of mouth. The kiosk is surrounded by small tables and chairs reflecting Vietnamese street-dining culture.
