University of Canberra proposes merger with CIT as equals

UC wants to merge with CIT as equal partners. CIT would keep its independence within the merged institution.

The University of Canberra has proposed merging with the Canberra Institute of Technology as equal partners. CIT would keep its identity, its current workplace terms, and its hands-on teaching approach as a TAFE college.

The Canberra Institute of Technology would have its own academic council. Staff from both institutions would stay under their current workplace agreements.

UC says the merger would create one entry point for students. TAFE qualifications would count toward degrees.

It would also bring university courses south of the lake for the first time. First, both institutions would do a due diligence check within three months.

They would get input from students, staff, unions, and the community.
