Tradie earning $200k fined $1500 for 1000kg truck overload
Linden McDowell pleaded guilty to overloading his truck by more than 1000 kilograms while carrying bluestone rocks in April.
McDowell, 54, was stopped for a random check by National Heavy Vehicle Regulator officers on Bungaree-Wallace Road on 23 April. McDowell's truck weighed 5710 kilograms, more than 1000 kilograms over the legal limit of 4500 kilograms.
When asked why, he told officers he had no way to check the load and was unsure of the weight he was carrying. The magistrate called it "really risky behaviour" and described the breach as "serious."
McDowell, who told the court he earns about $200,000 a year laying foundations and private roads, was fined $1500 and ordered to pay $250 in court costs.
