Scotty Masters opens BBQ restaurant with Australia's second-largest smoker

Former radio host Scotty Masters opens an almost 200-seat restaurant in December with a four-tonne smoker, the second largest in Australia.

Scotty Masters was fired from breakfast radio five years ago and started smoking meat in his driveway. His Sunday night dinners grew so popular he moved to a food truck, then a small café in Fyshwick.

The dinners moved to a food truck and then a small café. Now he is opening Smoke Masters BBQ at Majura Park Shopping Centre in early December.

The restaurant has a custom-built smoker named after his father Geoff, who is now in a nursing home. Masters expects to cook up to 40 tonnes of brisket a year.

He will run the almost 200-seat venue with his wife Cheree and their son and son-in-law. The Fyshwick café closes November 21.
