Millie Griffin, 16, selected for Youth Olympics in new Beach Sprint rowing
Canberra's Millie Griffin, 16, won four gold medals and earned a place on the Australian Youth Olympics team in Beach Sprint rowing.
Millie Griffin is a Year 10 student at Canberra Girls Grammar School who has been chosen to represent Australia at the Youth Olympics in Senegal from October 31. She will compete in Beach Sprint, a new Olympic format that debuts at these games before joining the 2028 LA Games.
Rowers run to the boat, row 250 metres, navigate buoys in the ocean, and sprint back to shore. Millie earned her place by winning four gold medals at the Oceania and Australian Beach Sprint Championships in Queensland earlier this year.
Millie Griffin will compete in the single scull and mixed double with Brisbane's Alex Watt. Millie trained for just four years to reach this level.
She did six water sessions a week plus strength and conditioning work and cross-training.
