Rookie QB starts for Ravens against playoff-chasing Jaguars
Rookie Joe Fagnano gets his first NFL start for Baltimore after injuries sidelined Lamar Jackson and Tyler Huntley.
Joe Fagnano, an undrafted rookie signed as a free agent, will start at quarterback for the Baltimore Ravens in Thursday Night Football against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Fagnano became the starter after Lamar Jackson injured his thumb on the first offensive play against Buffalo last week and landed on injured reserve.
Tyler Huntley, the backup, exited with a season-ending toe injury in the second quarter. In his relief appearance, Fagnano threw for 91 yards with one interception and was sacked three times in that 36-10 loss, also injuring his ankle.
Jacksonville arrives 5-2, having beaten Indianapolis 42-7, with Trevor Lawrence throwing three touchdowns. The Jaguars are 10-point favourites.
Baltimore is 4-4 and facing a season where injuries are forcing sudden changes to the field.

Why it mattersRookie QBs thrown into the fire often make or break a season; this game will show whether Fagnano can handle the pressure or if the Ravens' playoff hopes have taken another hit.
AustraliaNo direct Australian effect yet, unless Australians who follow the NFL see this as a make-or-break moment for their team.
