Angry Anderson, the raw-voiced frontman of Rose Tattoo, has died aged 79. Born in Melbourne in 1947, Anderson became one of Australian rock's most recognisable figures.
Rose Tattoo emerged from the country's hard-edged pub circuit and grew into an international force, touring Europe and the United States. Guns N' Roses covered their song Nice Boys in 1986.
Beyond music, Anderson appeared in Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome and performed Suddenly for Neighbours, which reached No.3 in the UK. His public image as a rock and roll outlaw made some people adore him and others deeply dislike him.
That duality defined his legacy. Rose Tattoo was inducted into the ARIA Hall of Fame in 2006.
