ACT childcare safety records going public from next year
The ACT will publish proven safety breaches and enforcement actions on a public register. Assessments will increase by 50% by 2028.
Canberra parents will be able to check which childcare centres have breached safety rules. They can see what action regulators took.
The ACT Government is developing a public register. It will list enforcement actions that can be published under national childcare law.
The register follows a motion by Independent MLA Thomas Emerson asking for greater transparency and oversight. The government is also planning to increase inspections.
Assessments of childcare services will jump 34% by June 2027. They will rise 50% by June 2028 compared with current rates.
Annual audits will rise from 210 to 280 by 2028. The goal is to inspect every centre at least once every three years.
