Three promised Sydney flood levees unbuilt four years after election pledge
Three levees promised by Chris Minns before the 2023 election for $24 million have not yet been built nearly four years later.
Chris Minns promised three flood levees at Peachtree Creek, McGraths Hill and Pitt Town before Labor won the 2023 election. The plan was to spend the $24 million within two years of winning office, but nearly four years on, construction has not started.
The NSW Reconstruction Authority completed a disaster adaptation plan 12 months ago that considers flood mitigation options, but the government has not released the report. A flood at 1867 levels would require evacuation of more than 230,000 people, according to the government's own research.
Experts say the delay leaves western Sydney exposed to serious flood risk.
- 24 million dollars
- Promised funding
- 230,000+ people
- Evacuation required at 1867 flood levels
- 225 million dollars
- Total resilience plan
