ATSB finds engine trouble before fatal Logan crash that killed Barambah founder
Engine trouble preceded a crash on September 7. It killed Barambah Organics founder Ian Campbell and his daughter Hannah.
The Beechcraft A36 Bonanza crashed near Logan on September 7. Before takeoff, the engine had failed to start several times.
Ian Campbell, 56, founder of Barambah Organics, and his daughter Hannah, 23, were aboard. The plane hit a field at Stockleigh about seven minutes after leaving Archerfield Airport.
An engineer from a nearby hangar helped start the engine with a battery cart. During flight, witnesses heard the engine sputtering.
Wreckage examination showed signs of low engine power at impact. The aircraft reached about 1,100 feet before descending steadily over seven minutes.
The Australian Transport Safety Bureau is investigating aircraft maintenance, pilot training, and fuel procedures. A final report will be released once the investigation is complete.
