Mount Stromlo Observatory launches outdoor cinema with space movies
Observatory holds its first outdoor movie screening October 23 with five more scheduled through January 2027.
Mount Stromlo Observatory in Canberra used its 74-inch dome as a cinema screen for the first time last Friday. A large crowd watched Interstellar for free, sponsored by mental health service Headspace.
Five more movies follow between November 13 and January 15. They are: The Martian, Arrival, Hidden Figures, Wall-E and The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy.
Tickets cost $15 for adults, $12 for students and $8 for children. The idea came from ANU associate professor Brad Tucker.
He noticed the dome's projection setup during earlier astronomy events. He thought it would work as a movie screen.
