Bendigo football journalist Richard Jones died last week, aged 86. Richard Jones spent 25 years at the Bendigo Advertiser, mostly as sports editor.
Jones reported on the Bendigo football league every season from 1977 onward. Jones joined the league's Hall of Fame in November 2025, one of 72 members and the only media one.
Jones often ended his match report emails with 'cheers n beers'. Ill health kept Jones from covering games this year, but his history column still ran in the league's Record.
The league called him the keeper of its story as much as its reporter. Jones will be buried wearing his Hall of Fame pin.
