Ben Johnson joins son Isaac at kayak world championships in Argentina

Ben had not planned to go, but he will now race the over-55 masters events, 19 kilometres each.

Ben Johnson of Warrnambool is heading to Argentina this week for the world championships. Since moving to town in 2008, locals have known him as the paddling preacher.

Isaac Johnson qualified for Australia's team at the Australian championships earlier this year. Ben said he had not planned to go, but he changed his mind when Isaac was picked.

Isaac will race the 30-kilometre open single long course and the 3.5-kilometre short course. Ben will race the over-55 masters single and double long courses, each 19 kilometres.

Isaac's two sisters also paddle, and Alana and Ellie have both competed overseas. After the races, Isaac and Ben plan to spend a week hiking in Patagonia.
