Doreen White became Goulburn's first female real estate agent after facing rejection from every other agent in town.
Doreen White broke into real estate in Goulburn when every existing agent in the town rejected her applications. White had excelled at the job in Deniliquin and decided to persist.
A tip from a local accountant led her to Cabot Laing, where partner Gordon Cabot gave her a chance. White soon opened her own agency, with her sergeant husband Gavin finding the perfect location and designing the signage.
White worked seven days a week, understanding better than her male counterparts what women wanted in a home. Within a decade she had employed others and built a successful business.
By the time she left in 1992, about ten other women were selling real estate in Goulburn.
