ACT targets 2,500 more European visitors yearly by 2030 to boost tourism

The ACT wants 2,500 extra visitors yearly from the UK and Europe by 2030.

Chief Minister Andrew Barr is on a trade mission this week to Germany and the United Kingdom to boost tourism. The ACT wants 2,500 extra visitors yearly from Europe and the UK by 2030.

Currently about 10 per cent of Canberra's international visitors come from the UK and about 13 per cent from Europe. UK visitors typically stay seven nights.

The government believes more European demand will strengthen the case for extra international flights. Qatar Airways returns to Canberra from December, offering a gateway to Europe, the UK and the Middle East.

Barr will also meet airlines, tourism operators and investors to build demand and maximise the new service.
