Alice Springs Rodeo returns to 2,000-strong crowd after year away

The Alice Springs Rodeo made its comeback after a year away. More than 2,000 spectators filled Blatherskite Park on Saturday, watching competitors tackle bucking bulls and horses.
Kids rode poddy calves. Local organiser James Christian said the turnout showed how much the town had missed the event.
The rodeo drew committee members and competitors from across about 1,000 kilometres of the Territory. Thirty-eight-year-old cowboy Sam Webb won the Open Bull Ride and the final shoot-out.
Three competitors went to hospital with injuries described as stable. The RSPCA raised animal welfare concerns.
Organisers are already planning to bring the rodeo back next year.
