Three die at Burning Man, triple the festival's usual yearly death toll

Three people died during the 2026 festival, compared with an average of one death per year.

Three people died at Burning Man in Nevada's Black Rock Desert during the week-long festival that wrapped on September 7. Sampson Tshombe collapsed on September 3 and died despite emergency personnel performing CPR.

Armando Ramirez, 51, died the next day while being transported to Reno hospital. Craig Mann, 60, was found dead in a trailer on September 5.

Sheriff Jerry Allen told Reno Gazette-Journal that three deaths was unusually high for the event. The festival attracts tens of thousands of people each year who build their own attractions and community in a temporary city called Black Rock City.
