Lagging ticket sales could cut Murray River Fine Music festival's programs
Festival leaders say low ticket sales could cut scholarship and music programs.
The three-day Murray River Fine Music festival in Wodonga runs this weekend. Low ticket sales could put the volunteer-run group at risk, says chief executive Helena Kernaghan.
The festival may have to cut its scholarship program. The festival may also have to stop hiring pianos for performances.
Neither Albury nor Wodonga has a public concert grand piano. The festival must ship instruments in at great cost.
The Geoffrey McFerran Young Victorian Piano Competition has run in Wodonga for three years. It now risks moving to towns like Wangaratta or Shepparton.
Those towns already have concert grand pianos. ARIA award-winning artist Lior headlines the festival on Sunday.
