Hackers breach platform ASOS uses, send alert to thousands of users
Hackers broke into a data platform that ASOS uses. They claimed to have accessed personal information from app users.
Hackers sent an unauthorised message through the ASOS app to shoppers in Australia, the UK, France, Sweden and Ireland. The sender claimed to have fully taken over the Snowflake data platform.
The message, titled ASOS HACKED, threatened to leak data unless the company responded. ASOS confirmed some personal information of app users may have been accessed.
This includes names and contact details. Payment card details and passwords were not exposed.
The company immediately restricted access to its message platforms. The website and app continue working normally.
ASOS shares fell about 10% following the announcement. The company has cyber security insurance.
It is investigating with specialist advisers and authorities.
