Scouts NSW sells 40-year Port Kembla shop as online shopping shifts retail
Scouts NSW sold its Port Kembla site of 40 years for $1.16 million, shifting retail operations online.
Scouts NSW has sold its Port Kembla retail location on Wentworth Street for $1.16 million, ending four decades at the site. The property housed the NSW Scout Shop, the South Coast and Tablelands Region Office, and a heritage memorabilia collection.
Scouts cited changing shopping habits as the reason: customers increasingly buy online, while costs to run a physical store keep rising. The new owner plans to renovate the site and lease it as a cafe, restaurant and shop space, with residential units upstairs.
Scouts NSW will relocate its regional office and memorabilia storage elsewhere in the region. Any future scout retail sales will be online only.
The organisation reinvests property sale revenue back into the scouting movement.
