South West Tech School opens in Warrnambool with free buses for students
Victoria opens its $8.8 million tech school in Warrnambool, serving about 8,000 students with free buses.
South West Tech School officially opened on Thursday at South West TAFE in Warrnambool. The campus features 3D printers, laser cutters, a kitchen, workshop, virtual reality headsets, drones, and an e-sports arena called the Pixel Forge.
The school will open to students in term four this year. Western Victoria MP Jacinta Ermacora announced the school would pay for free buses to transport students between their schools and campus for a six-month trial.
Warrnambool mayor Ben Blain said the facility would help keep students in the region instead of moving to Melbourne to study. The school offers training in areas not available elsewhere in the south-west.
