Oil price falls but Australian fuel prices stay high
Brent crude fell more than $2, but Australian petrol stays above $2.40 per litre with a delayed relief lag.
Brent crude oil fell by more than $2 to its lowest level since September 8, but Australian motorists should not expect some immediate relief at the bowser. Some Queensland service stations are still charging more than $2.40 per litre for unleaded and $2.90 for diesel.
The NRMA says price changes can take up to 10 days to flow into the retail market. Global conflicts in Iran and Ukraine have cut fuel exports from Russia, Saudi Arabia and the UAE, stretching refineries worldwide.
Australia relies on imports for most petrol, exposing it to these disruptions. Brent fell from around $110 to $98 per barrel, but remains well above the pre-war average of $72.
