Witness places person of interest around 145km away when schoolgirl vanished
A witness testified that a person of interest in the 1972 disappearance was working around 145 kilometres away.
A coronial inquest into the 1972 disappearance of Marilyn Wallman resumed this week in Mackay, Queensland. The 14-year-old left to catch a school bus on March 21, 1972, but never arrived.
Marilyn's bicycle was found the same day. A fragment of her skull was discovered two years later at McGregor Creek, about 40 kilometres away.
This week's inquest examined the case of a person of interest, Noel Morris. Testimony heard that Morris was working at a coalmine around 145 kilometres away when the girl disappeared.
The inquest will continue as the coroner seeks to establish the cause of death.
