Wollongong trials entertainment precinct to boost CBD events and music

Wollongong City Council is trialling a Special Entertainment Precinct to simplify event approvals and manage noise and trading hours.

Wollongong City Council is seeking public feedback on a trial Special Entertainment Precinct. The precinct covers the CBD between Ellen Street and Smith Street.

A uniform plan would govern noise and trading hours. Event approvals for venues and organisers would be simplified.

The precinct would prevent conflicts between council and state-owned land by treating both the same way within the zone. Council would keep standards to balance a lively city centre with residents' concerns about noise and disruptive behavior.

Public feedback via Let's Talk Wollongong closes November 4.

Why it mattersSimpler event approvals could bring more live music and festivals to the CBD. This would make the city more active after dark and during the day.

AustraliaWollongong residents may see more entertainment events in the CBD if the trial succeeds; the model could later be used in other NSW entertainment precincts.
