Repeat abuser jailed in ACT for attacks on his partner
A 35-year-old man was jailed for almost two years and 11 months, and will be eligible for release in February 2027.
The ACT Supreme Court sentenced a 35-year-old man on Monday for repeated domestic violence against one woman. Justice Jon White said his actions showed a pattern of coercive and violent behaviour against her.
The 35-year-old pleaded guilty to eight charges, including causing grievous bodily harm and an act of indecency without consent. In one July 2023 attack, the man choked the woman for between one and one-and-a-half minutes.
During that attack, the woman tried to smash a bedroom window to escape, but failed. The man was already serving a jail term from last year for attacks on the same woman.
The judge said the man would need to show his rehabilitation has progressed before he could win parole. The man has not been named, to protect the identity of his then-partner.
