Former Newington teacher charged with raping student she groomed
Former teacher Deandra Kontou, 32, was charged with nine sex offences including rape. Police say she groomed a student under 16.
Kontou formerly taught at Newington College in Sydney for two years before leaving in 2019. Police say she sexually assaulted a student in her care.
She used an electronic device to groom the child first. Kontou faces nine sex charges including one count of rape, charged as serious sexual assault under NSW law.
She also faces four counts of sexually touching another person and related crimes. Police believe the victim was under 16 at the time of the alleged assault.
Kontou appeared in Sutherland Local Court and was granted conditional bail. Court orders ban her from any school, contacting the victim or witnesses, or being alone with any child.
She must report to police weekly, surrender her passport, and return to court on 25 November.
