Terang Harness Racing Club is launching a $1 million training centre with $400,000 state funding to help young trainers start careers.
Terang Harness Racing Club is launching a training centre to help young trainers break into the sport without needing family in it. The facility will hold up to about four trainers.
Each can have multiple horses, or fewer trainers can have larger numbers. The training centre will include stables, washdowns, shelters and training facilities on the current racing complex.
Marg Lee is a third-generation trainer at Terang. She backs the plan after decades of success.
Her horse Keayang Zahara won 28 of 29 races. South West Coast Liberal MP Roma Britnell announced a $400,000 election commitment to the project on October 19.
The club and supporters are matching that investment, with the full project expected to exceed $1 million.
