Students rally in Bendigo against Pauline Hanson's One Nation
About 40 students marched through Bendigo. They opposed One Nation and Pauline Hanson's comments on Indigenous and LGBTQ+ Australians.
Hamish Knight, 17, led roughly 40 people through Bendigo's CBD and Rosalind Park. The rally opposed One Nation and Pauline Hanson.
Hanson had called First Nations people "primitive". The protest also opposed her past comments about migrants and LGBTQ+ people.
Knight said the party made hateful and divisive statements. Young Australians needed to oppose them, he said.
Protester Dylan Stockwell compared the comment to attitudes from when the First Fleet arrived. Police had a larger presence than at an August rally.
They moved counter-protesters away to stop conflict. Organisers plan another rally for the week of the state election.
