Grief campaigner found dead on beach where her son died
Woman who started grief cafe after son's death found dead on the same beach.
Charmaine George, 52, was found dead on Portreath Beach in Cornwall on October 5. The beach held special meaning for her: it was the same location where her son Ewan died in 2020.
Ewan was 18 when he was found there; his cause of death was believed to be suicide, though a coroner recorded an open verdict. After his death, George dedicated herself to helping other grieving families.
She started a grief cafe and worked with the Good Grief Trust to launch support services across Cornwall. In 2021, she was awarded the Caroline Flack Mental Health Hero Award for her advocacy.
Her own death was not treated as suspicious by police. The cause has not been determined, and a full inquest is expected next year.
