Labor pledges $400m to fix Melbourne's west with buses every 10 minutes
Labor promises to spend $400 million on frequent bus services in Melbourne's west, with buses every 10 minutes on key routes.
Melbourne's western suburbs have long faced a bus shortage, leaving some schoolchildren with half-hour walks to the nearest stop. Labor's election promise aims to fix that with a $400 million transport overhaul due if the party is re-elected on November 28.
Under the plan, two-thirds of existing routes will upgrade to turn-up-and-go services with a bus every 10 minutes, seven days a week. Labor will also create new routes across the west that connect to train stations.
The pledge targets fast-growing areas where transport access remains a constant complaint.
