The Building and Plumbing Commission and the Fair Work Ombudsman inspected almost 350 residential and commercial sites across regional Victoria and Melbourne's outer suburbs. The inspection checked 700 workers for credentials.
24 were working without registration. One worker in Sebastopol, Victoria was caught planning underground sanitary drainage work with no registration.
All cases are being examined for enforcement action. Breaking the rules can mean penalties over $10,000.
A licensed plumber must not allow unregistered people to do plumbing work. The exception is for apprentices under supervision.
Consumers should check a builder's or plumber's credentials at bpc.vic.gov.au/check. Always hire a registered builder for jobs over $10,000.
