Woman who grabbed officer during arrest gets community order
Josie Hancock, 32, grabbed a senior constable and screamed at police during her partner's arrest in regional NSW.
When officers arrived at a Lavington home with a warrant for Jarrah Maksymow, his partner Josie Hancock refused to let them inside. Josie Hancock told them she had drugs in the house.
Police saw her move toward a coffee table where a bong and cannabis sat, so they forced the door open. As the first officer entered, Hancock grabbed him and pulled him onto a couch, then later screamed at police as they arrested Maksymow.
Officers deployed capsicum spray because of her aggression. The 32-year-old pleaded guilty on 28 October to hindering police and possessing a prohibited drug.
The court heard Hancock had previously been in a violent relationship. She was ordered to complete 60 hours of unpaid work and fined $250.
Why it mattersThe case shows courts take obstructing police seriously, even when someone has a history of domestic violence.
