Margaret Timpson Park upgrade finally underway after 18-month wait
The ACT Government is seeking a builder for a $1.5 million upgrade to Margaret Timpson Park in the fast-growing Belconnen Town Centre.
Almost 18 months after Federal Labor promised funding, the ACT Government has released a tender for a $1.5 million upgrade to Margaret Timpson Park in Belconnen. The project aims to make the park a more attractive and functional space in a town centre that has densified dramatically over the past decade.
The upgrade includes new tree plantings, landscaping, lighting, seating, a barbecue, a public toilet, and a new inclusive playground with a central multi-age play structure. A park shelter will provide cover for a picnic area, and a shade sail will protect the playground from summer sun.
Accessible paths and ramp connections will improve entry to the park from Chandler Street. ACT Minister Tara Cheyne said the park has become invaluable to nearby residents who lack other green space.
