Childcare worker faces 444 charges over alleged abuse of 130+ children

Former Sydney childcare worker Hamish Tait now faces 444 charges. The charges relate to alleged abuse of more than 130 children over 16 years.
The Australian Federal Police laid 115 additional charges on Friday. These include 105 counts of producing child abuse material.
They also include one count of a sexual act with a child under 10. Related offences were charged as well.
The alleged abuse occurred between 2009 and 2025. It happened across five early childhood facilities in Sydney's north-west.
Tait, 35, has been remanded in custody since his arrest in July. The investigation, called Operation Moonbi, reviewed 2.4 million electronic files.
The matter is next heard at Parramatta Local Court on October 8.
