Man charged after carjacking car with baby inside in Victoria
A 51-year-old man from Swan Hill has been charged. He allegedly carjacked a vehicle with a seven-month-old baby inside.
A Swan Hill man flagged down a motorist on the Murray Valley Highway near Beverford on Wednesday morning. The man allegedly stole her Holden Commodore during a struggle.
The 36-year-old woman had gotten out of her car to help the man. The seven-month-old baby inside the vehicle was found uninjured on the roadside a short distance away.
A passer-by made the discovery. The woman sustained minor injuries in the struggle.
Police found the abandoned car in bushland near Nyah, about 10 kilometres away. The man was arrested several hours later.
He was charged with carjacking, child stealing, theft, unlawful assault, and failing to follow bail conditions.
