ACT releases Belconnen block for housing, not park expansion

The ACT government released the vacant Belconnen block for sale to community housing providers, rejecting calls to expand Margaret Timpson Park.

The empty block in Belconnen's town centre, vacant since 2020, will become community housing after the government released it for sale to community housing providers. Residents had campaigned for it to expand the adjacent Margaret Timpson Park instead.

Mary Van de Graaf, who lives nearby, backed the park campaign but now objects to the housing plan. The government is also upgrading the park, with works starting in early 2027.
