Shellharbour council challenges state's housing plan near hospital
Community backlash over building heights and density prompted council to strengthen its opposition to the state plan.
Shellharbour councillors voted Tuesday to oppose a state plan. It would allow 1,700 new homes next to the new Shellharbour Hospital on a 90-hectare site.
Buildings would stand two to seven storeys high. Councillors sent their draft submission back to staff to strengthen the opposition.
They cited community concerns about height and density. Cr Kellie Marsh said the submission did not match how residents felt.
Cr Rob Petreski said no community member had told him they supported the plan. The council voted 6-3 to seek state control of Dunmore Road to manage traffic from the development.
