Tom Johnson's first season at Barnawartha ended in a grand final upset. The 35-year-old recruit dominated in the ruck and won the Wayne Bartel Medal for best on ground.
Barnawartha beat reigning premiers Kiewa-Sandy Creek 12.14 (86) to 11.6 (72). Johnson praised his teammates' defensive pressure and effort.
