Coalition commits extra funding to Albury hospital despite cost blowout
Steve Martin says the Victorian Coalition will spend beyond its $100m pledge to deliver all promised Albury hospital improvements.
Liberal candidate Steve Martin says the Victorian Coalition will spend more than $100 million to deliver every promised upgrade at Albury hospital, regardless of cost. The original redevelopment cost $558 million, with Victoria and NSW each paying $225 million.
Upgrades include extra beds, more car parking and specialist youth mental health services. Martin and Liberal leader Jess Wilson made the pledge before the November 28 state election.
Victorian Premier Ben Carroll dismissed the promise, saying voters cannot trust the Coalition on hospital funding. He pointed to Labor's half-billion-dollar investment in the project.
The Alliance of Councils chair raised concerns that extra spending would lock in the current site over a proposed new medical hub.
